Processing Error


The cardholder claims that:

  • The transaction amount billed is incorrect.
  • A transposition or addition mistake was made during calculations.
  • The merchant changed the transaction amount after processing without authorization from the cardholder.


The merchant made an error when entering the numbers.


Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Double-check your calculations and the final amounts before completing the transaction.
  • Refrain from changing transaction amounts without cardholder consent.
  • Recommend the use of reading chips and swipe cards for all transactions.
  • Train your sales team on the proper methods for processing transactions.
