This reason code is transitioning from the legacy code 4807. A cardholder claims the merchant didn’t get authorization for said transaction.

Cause

The issuer couldn’t verify the authorization approval was obtained when processing the transaction.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 90 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.
Merchants have 45 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

Merchants should:

  • Always get authorization before they process a transaction.
  • Terminate the sale if the card network declines the transaction.
  • Train members to follow Mastercard practices of accepting card payments.
