Cause

  • The merchant made an error when manually entering the transaction amounts.
  • The transaction amount processed was over the merchant’s limit.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.
Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Avoid processing a transaction after receiving a declined authorization.ย ย 
  • If you add tips and gratuities, ensure they arenโ€™t over the allowed upper limit.ย 
  • Never change the transaction amount after receiving authorization approval. If thereโ€™s a price change, submit a new approval request.
