Processing Error

Claim

The merchant submitted a transaction with the wrong transaction code, i.e., they sent a debit instead of a credit or vice versa.

Cause

The merchant processed a credit instead of a reversal or processed a debit instead of a credit.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

Train your staff on the proper use of transaction codes and ensure they know how to handle regular transactions, refunds, reversals, and adjustments.
