Claim

The cardholder claims the merchant should have processed a regular transaction on their card, but instead, the merchant credited their account.

Cause

The merchant picks the wrong choice on their processing interface and runs a transaction as a refund. 

Response

Cardholders and issuers have no limit to the number of days they have to to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Double-check transaction receipts before depositing.
  • Be keen not to process transactions that should be canceled or voided.
