Interaction Error


This reason code is transitioning from the legacy code 4842. The merchant didn't deposit the transaction within the set timelines.


The merchant: 

  • Didn't process the transaction within the specified timeframe, and the cardholder's account is now closed.
  • Posted the transaction 180 days after the original transaction date.


Cardholders and issuers have 90 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 45 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Send the transactions to the issuer in seven days if you have an electronic record of the card information.
  • Submit transactions between different regions to the issuer within 30 days and 14 days for U.S. domestic transactions if you have a manual record of the card information.
  • Clear the transactions one business day after the authorization response date.
