Claim

The OCT (Original Credit Transaction) wasnโ€™t processed and the merchant receives the money back from the cardholder. This is a reverse chargeback; however, it is considered like a chargeback for the purpose of determining fees and the merchantโ€™s chargeback ratio.

Cause

It could be the cardholder doesnโ€™t accept original credit transactions, or the issuer doesnโ€™t accept OCTs on some card types because of local laws.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.
Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Be up to date with the usage laws in the areas you operate in.
  • Keep accurate records.
