The amount the merchant sought approval for was less than the transaction amount.


  • The merchant made an error when manually entering the transaction amounts.
  • The transaction amount processed was over the merchant's limit.


Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Avoid processing a transaction after receiving a declined authorization.  
  • If you add tips and gratuities, ensure they aren’t over the allowed upper limit. 
  • Never change the transaction amount after receiving authorization approval. If there’s a price change, submit a new approval request.
