Cause

  • The transaction approval request was declined. 
  • The transaction was completed on an expired card. 
  • The transaction was sent after the authorization approval had expired.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.
Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Submit/process every transaction in good time. 
  • Avoid processing transactions after getting an authorization decline. 
  • Never process transactions from an expired card.
  • Train your staff on the right methods of handling authorization approval.
