American Express sent a transaction inquiry to the merchant, but the merchant responded by authorizing American Express to process a chargeback for the transaction.

Cause

The merchant passed the chargeback.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have no limit to the number of days they have to to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Always keep good credit records that directly prove you offset the transaction in dispute. 
  • Ensure information is easily accessible when required.
