Processing Error

Claim

The merchant processed a transaction with an incorrect or invalid card number.

Cause

  • The merchant made an error when calculating or entering transaction data.
  • The cardholder gave an invalid or incorrect card number.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have no limit to the number of days they have to to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Always double-check the numbers.  
  • Get secondary validation, including PIN.

Notes

The transaction can be resubmitted if you give the correct card number.
