  • Debited the cardholder’s account instead of crediting it.
  • Credited the cardholder’s account instead of issuing a reversal.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have no limit to the number of days they have to to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Always double-check the type of transactions, amount, and calculations. 
  • Train your staff on proper procedures for processing debits, credits, and reversals.
