Claim

The merchant didn’t submit the transaction in the required time.

Cause

  • The merchant didn’t process the transaction within the stipulated timelines, and the account is closed. 
  • The merchant posted the transaction 181 days after the transaction date.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have no limit to the number of days they have to to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Deposit the order receipt with the acquirer as soon as possible (on the transaction date if possible).
  • Complete the payment batches fast.
  • Process all transactions within 180 days of the transaction.
  • If you feel a customer might be caught off-guard by the transaction’s timing, inform them well in advance to give them sufficient time to switch to an alternate payment method.
