Processing Error


The merchant made multiple transaction currency errors.


  • The transaction currency is different from the currency that was transmitted through American Express.
  • The cardholder wasn’t given the opportunity to accept Dynamic Currency Conversion.


Cardholders and issuers have no limit to the number of days they have to to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Always inform the cardholder of the currency conversion and any fees that apply.
  • Give your cardholder the opportunity to make purchases in their local currency.
  • Train the staff on the right procedure of handling transactions made in a different currency.
