Claim

American Express requested additional transaction information but the merchant didn’t offer sufficient information.

Cause

  • The merchant failed to provide the documents American Express requested.  
  • The merchant replied with partial documentation.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have no limit to the number of days they have to to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Keep accurate transaction records for every transaction you process. 
  • Always read requests carefully and issue full documentation as requested.
