Service Dispute


The cardholder claims the charged amount is different from the authorized amount.


  • The system posted a different transaction amount in the cardholder’s account.
  • The ATM gave a different amount from the amount charged.
  • Merchant seeks authorization for one amount but later charges a different amount.
  • For cash advance transactions, the merchant might have dispensed an incorrect cash amount or made an error in the cash advance.


Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 30 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Avoid charging the cardholder any transaction amount without their consent.
  • Double-check every calculation and final transaction before processing.
  • Reconcile cash recorded with the cash distributed.


The card issuer gets 30 extra days to file a chargeback if they submitted a retrieval request which was completed after the 120 days.
