Cause

The merchant unsuccessfully tried to resolve an issue.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 30 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

The steps vary depending on the claim. However, some best practices include:

  • Avoid making exaggerated or false claims about a service or product.
  • Offer detailed tracking information plus delivery confirmations for shipments.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Block customers you’ve had bad-faith disputes with before.
