Claim

The transaction was settled after the expiration deadline. At this point, the cardholder's account wasn't active or in good standing.

Cause

The merchant took too long to settle the account.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 90 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 45 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

Merchants should:

  • Settle all pre-authorized transactions within 30 days after the transaction authorization date.
  • Settle transactions without pre-authorization within seven days after authorization.
  • Always seek authorization approval before you process a transaction.
