Interaction Error


The cardholder claims the merchant processed an unauthorized charge of loss, theft, and damage upfront, even before they used their service.


The merchant processed a charge for loss, theft, or damage without the approval of the cardholder.


Cardholders and issuers have 90 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 45 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Add loss, theft, and damage charges after consulting and agreeing with the cardholder.
  • Explain to the cardholder situations that warrant a loss, theft, or damage charge.
  • Process the original transaction amount and the loss, theft, and damage charges separately.
