Claim

The cardholder tried resolving a dispute with the merchant but was unsuccessful.

Cause

  • The merchant failed to resolve an issue with a customer in adequate time or outrightly denied the request.
  • The cardholder's claim is fraudulent.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 45 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

The merchant should act on cardholder complaints in good time.

Notes

This dispute can be filed anywhere from 60 to 120 days after the issuer learns about the original cardholder dispute.
