Claim

The account number authorized is different from the account number used to process the transaction.

Cause

The merchant processed the transaction using an incorrect or invalid account number.

Response

Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.

Merchants have 20 days to respond to the claim in dispute.

Steps to Prevention

  • Double-check numbers before processing a transaction.
  • Train the staff on the correct transaction processing procedures.
  • Have all transaction chips read or swiped.
