Cause
The merchant didn’t set up enough purchase controls for a cardholder, and the unauthorized purchase of digital goods of under $25 was processed.
Response
Cardholders and issuers have 120 days to file a dispute related to the claim against the merchant.
Merchants have 45 days to respond to the claim in dispute.
Steps to Prevention
The merchant should confirm all purchases through text or email.
Get cardholder authentication before processing a purchase.
Turn off default purchases and have every cardholder log in to complete a purchase.
Every purchase process should time out after a specific period of inactivity.
Display the total transaction amount for all pending purchases and obtain cardholder confirmation.
